This week, Safedrive's employees made a solid effort for Save the Children Norway and the 2023 telethon, "Let children live in peace". More than 20 motivated employees rolled up their sleeves to collect as many contributions as possible for the most important fundraiser of the year.

More than 20 motivated employees made a great effort for the 2023 telethon.

450 million children are growing up in war and conflict zones, and there have never been so many children on the run in the world as today. Every single day, children are exposed to the brutality of war. They are deprived of the access to education and stripped of hope for the future.

This year, the telethon will support children affected by war and conflict. The funds will provide over 100,000 children the opportunity to play, learn and live in peace, supporting initiatives that make families, schools and communities safer for children.

As a contribution to the telethon, Safedrive has made a considerable effort to gather donations for a cruical cause – for the second year in a row.

- Given the many distressing and tragic events happening globally, it is great to be able to allocate time to raise funds for those who truly need it, says Magnus Wester, CEO of Safedrive, explaining the company's commitment to this year's telethon.

Doubled last year's contribution

During last year's fundraiser, Safedrive helped raise 240,000 for Doctors Without Borders (Médecins Sans Frontières), and Magnus Wester says that Safedrive's goal for the campaign was to surpass last year's amount.

- We were eager to exceed the amount from last year, when we only concentrated on contributions in Namsos. This year, more than 20 employees took responsibility for reaching out to businesses in all the municipalities in Namdalen - with the exception of Flatanger and Høylandet, which organized their own business campaigns.

- We are very pleased and touched by the commitment of local businesses. Not only did we exceed last year's amount - we doubled it. This year, businesses in Namdalen have supported the telethon with more than NOK 540,000, Wester proudly reports.

- At the same time, it is important to emphasize that it is not too late to support this year's telethon. We hope that everyone who can will contribute to ensuring that children growing up in war and conflict areas can experience a safer everyday life!

The telethon has been held every year since 1974 and has become a tradition in Norway. The campaign is the world's largest fundraising campaign in terms of funds raised per capita and number of volunteers.

This year's telethon contributions will support the following:

Contributions from the 2023 telethon will be distributed between projects in Ukraine, Syria, Bangladesh, South Sudan, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Norway. In Norway, we will support children who have fled from war and conflict.

The funds raised will support various initiatives, including:

  • providing children the opportunity to attend school
  • reuniting children with family members from whom they have been separated
  • supporting former child soldiers
  • safe play areas where children can play
  • help to deal with painful experiences
  • that children who have fled to Norway have an active leisure time
