Autumn weather has already arrived in several parts of the country.
Autumn weather has already arrived in many parts of the country. Black asphalt, dark autumn evenings, rain, wet leaves, and slippery, icy roads can have serious consequences for motorists who do not prepare adequately. It's wise to secure your car for the upcoming season. Here are our tips for a fall-ready car:
1. Check tire tread depth
Lower temperatures and wet weather make good tires even more critical. While the legal minimum tread depth for summer tires is 1.6 mm, it's advisable to have a tread depth of nearly double that, at a minimum of 3 mm.
2. Inspect bulbs and windshield wipers
As we enter a darker season, it's important to ensure that the light bulbs in the car are functioning properly. Defective light sources lead to poorer visibility, which can have fatal consequences in case of an accident. Cloudy glass should also be addressed, as the amount of light passing through the headlight is reduced. Also, check that the high and low beams are correctly adjusted so as not to blind oncoming traffic.
With the increased demand on windshield wipers during autumn, make sure they grip the windshield well, and the rubber is not loose, worn, or brittle. Finish the check by cleaning the windshield wipers.
3. Battery maintenance
As temperatures drop, the strain on the car battery increases. Maintaining the battery with occasional charging can prevent starting issues. If your car has a aging battery, it's best to take the precaution of replacing it.
4. Check oil levels
Regardless of the season, regular oil checks are essential. Use the owner's manual as a guide and also examine oil change intervals. Old motor oil can become thick over time, making it harder for the engine to start in cold weather.
5. Car polish
Polishing your car in the fall is crucial for protecting the paint from road salt. A wax treatment in the fall can extend the lifespan of your car's paint sealant. A polished car is also easier to keep clean!
Polishing your car in the autumn is important to avoid rust and paint problems.
Wildlife collisions can happen all year round, but in the autumn the number of collisions on the roads rises dramatically. Figures show that wildlife collisions almost double from the spring and summer months to the aututmn and winter months. everal reasons contribute to this, including shorter days and darker evenings making it harder to spot animals, challenging road conditions, migration patterns, and autumn hunting.
As a motorist, there is good reason to be extra careful when driving. Keep the following in mind when driving this autumn:
