After participating in Safedrive Reward for just under a month, Lars Ketil Mikkelsen from Tromsø was selected as the winner of the month and was paid NOK 100,000. But the winnings don't stop there.

Tromsø Matstasjon received 100,000 kroner from the Tryggve Foundation and Safedrive – a gift that Lars Ketil Mikkelsen was given the opportunity to award after becoming the winner of the month in the Safedrive Reward. The funds will provide extra experiences and Christmas joy to families with children in Tromsø.

– We want safe driving to benefit the entire local community. That is why each monthly winner has the opportunity to allocate an additional 100,000 kroner to a socially beneficial cause through the Tryggve Fund, says Knut Ove Børseth, Head of Sustainability and Society at Safedrive.

Lars chose to donate the money to Tromsø Matstasjon, a voluntary initiative that distributes over 300 food boxes every week to families with children and others who need it most.

As Christmas approaches, Tromsø Matstasjon does far more than ensure food is on the table. They want to provide small and large experiences for children who would otherwise not have the opportunity. This can be anything from entrance to a water park, climbing, theater and other activities that create community and good memories.

– These are precisely the kinds of initiatives that the Tryggve Fund and Safedrive are for, continues Børseth.

– We hope that this money will benefit as many people as possible before Christmas.

Will almost double in value

– This means a lot to us. We are very good at spending money wisely, so this contribution will almost double in value for the families, says Anne Elisabeth Hafstad from Tromsø Matstasjon.

She says that the funds will go towards extra Christmas presents for their children's families. She lists that they will use it for climbing, the Buldreterminalen, theatre and cinema.

– It will probably be a bit “juicy” over the winter, too, smiles Hafstad, pointing out that the money could probably be enough for activities at Easter too.

– It is the experiences and what ends up in the memory bank that mean the most to the children.
