– It could be a deer, a log or a car that is stationary. Warning gives me time to react.

René Holmen rides nearly 20,000 kilometers on his motorcycle a year. He runs Bikelife Norge , a community for motorcyclists across the country, and organizes courses to empower riders and focus on safety.

“I find that there are a lot of useful notifications,” says René Holmen in Bikelife Norway. He himself has been using Safedrive for four years.

– For me, it's about good roads, the right equipment and getting home safely.

René has used Safedrive for four seasons, and says he uses the system actively – especially on narrow forest roads, where animals and obstacles can appear in an instant.

– It could be deer, moose, oil spills or just a bit of gravel in a bend. It's the little things that make you go straight into the ground without having time to react.

- We rowed down, and there were the deer.

René describes a situation that could have ended differently.

– We received a warning about animals and took it easy. Two turns later, there were deer standing on the side of the road, ready to run in all directions. Without the warning, we probably would have had much less time to react.

He believes the system provides value because it is built on community.

– There is always someone who has driven in front of you. If there is something I think should be reported, I do so. I have plenty of time.

Most drivers, but it works for us too

Even though most Safedrive users drive cars, René thinks the alerts hit the mark for motorcyclists as well.

– I find that there is a lot of useful warning. And it is warning with a focus on safety, not on “escaping”.

Bikelife Norway is founded on riding pleasure, but René is clear that safety is the foundation for it all.

– It's not about being afraid. It's about being prepared.
