Through an exciting pilot project, Safedrive and K160UTR hope to develop emergency vehicle notification – a new solution that can increase safety for both emergency services and other road users.

The instructors at K160UTR have safety in mind when conducting training. The Safedrive device is always included!

– The emergency services – fire, health, the military, Avinor, the Red Cross, and so on, need to provide expertise to those who will drive. That is what we deliver.

This is explained by former fire chief and general manager of K160UTR , Olav Noteng.

Together with their son Markus Noteng and Robert Fiskvik, who both work as driving instructors and fire constables, they offer specialized courses and training for emergency services and other professional drivers, with a focus on safe and efficient driving in demanding situations – including training for fire, health, defense, and other emergency response actors.

Markus Noteng explains that notifications are crucial for emergency vehicles, especially on exposed sections and narrow roads.

A safer driving experience with Safedrive

Markus Noteng has used Safedrive since the product was launched and sees great value in integrating it into the training K160UTR offers.

– I've had Safedrive ever since it came out. When my father started heading north, he was allowed to borrow the Safedrive with him, he says.

Dad Olav points out that Safedrive is particularly useful for warning of animals and obstacles on the road, which provides extra security for those traveling in areas with a high risk of wildlife.

– It's brilliant to use when we're doing training. The biggest fear we have when we're on the roads is the factors we have no control over: There are obstacles in the way, and above all animals and wildlife.

Markus Noteng adds that on exposed sections, such warnings are absolutely crucial.

– There are long stretches of narrow road. We have LED bars that are like turning on the sun, but the animals don't see it. There's no doubt that it works.

All notifications – including police checks, are of great importance to K160UTR.

The future of emergency notification

Colleague Robert Fiskvik highlights the importance of all types of alerts to ensure a safe working environment for those working in the emergency services.

– Notifications of checks are also important, because then we know that around the next bend there are probably people in the road to stop road users for the check. We would like to have advance warning of this.

Together with Safedrive, K160UTR sees opportunities for how innovative technology can play a crucial role in the work of emergency services, and how it can give emergency services the necessary security to carry out their work safely.

– It will be very exciting to see if we can get a notification of emergency vehicles, so that we can clear the way and ensure traffic safety, both for us and for fellow road users, says a hopeful Fiskvik.

K160UTR is excited about the opportunity to participate in a pilot project for emergency vehicle warning. For emergency vehicle drivers, who often have to drive at high speeds, having a device that can warn of hazards is a no-brainer.

A "no-brainer"

Olav Noteng is enthusiastic about the opportunity to participate in a pilot project that develops software for emergency vehicle notification.

– That's why we have agreed to participate in a pilot project, where software will be developed for alerting emergency vehicles. We find that very exciting.

Markus Noteng summarizes the importance of this technology in a simple way:

– We can drive fast – we are allowed to. And if we can reduce the risk that much by having such a device, which can warn us of dangers that we have no way of seeing, then it is a “no-brainer”, if you ask me.
