To make our alerts even more precise, Safedrive is now launching a new alert: “Other Hazard.” It is intended for use in situations that require increased attention, but do not necessarily involve a physical obstacle in the roadway.

The new "Other Hazard" warning can be used in situations that require increased attention, but do not necessarily involve a physical obstacle in the roadway.

At Safedrive, we always have one goal in mind: To make the roads safer through cooperation between drivers. Every day, our users help each other by notifying about animals in the roadway, obstacles and checkpoints. Now we are taking another step to make the notifications even more relevant and precise.

We are therefore now launching a completely new alert: "Other danger".

When is “obstacle in the way” not appropriate?

Many situations along the road require extra attention, without necessarily being described as an obstacle in the roadway. Nevertheless, "Obstacle in the road" has often been used to warn of such incidents, because there has not been a more suitable alternative.

For the person receiving the alert, this may create expectations that there is an object in the road, that there is a hole in the asphalt, or that the road is physically blocked. However, in practice, the situation may be something completely different:

  • Car with engine stalling
  • Accidents or incidents along the road
  • People standing or working on the side of the road
  • Situations where something unexpected can happen quickly

With "Other danger" it becomes easier to report unforeseen incidents along the road.

With "Other danger" we want to make the warnings even more precise and useful, so that you as a driver can more easily understand what kind of attention is required.

The new notification will be gradually rolled out to more devices going forward, before becoming available to everyone in the next major software update.

Thank you for contributing.

Safedrive is built on the community of drivers who alert others to incidents along the road every day. Each alert contributes to increased awareness, better traffic flow, and safer roads for everyone.

Thank you so much for helping each other – and making Norwegian roads a little safer, every single day.
