The big traffic alarm test

In the myriad of traffic alarm services, it can be difficult to find out which actually works best in Norway. See how Safedrive fared in this test from Garasjetid!

Bjørn-Aage Bredal is already well acquainted with Safedrive Pro. He was naturally curious about how Safedrive would perform in competition with other traffic alert services. Video: Garage time.

- Now I'm going to do a small test, where I've set up all the traffic warning devices I have. I have Safedrive, which I know well, and will test it against something called Saphe. In addition, I have Waze on the screen in the car, and then I have a service called Safer Traffic, which I have on my phone.

That's what Bjørn-Aage Bredal from Garasjetid says as he gets behind the wheel to carry out an extensive traffic alarm test. During several hours of driving from Trysil to Larvik, he has one goal in mind: to find out which service provides the best warning and thus can contribute to a safer and more attentive drive.

- Now I'm going to drive a long way, try to get to know these devices and tell you who gives the best warning. Because that's what it's all about - becoming safer in traffic. It is these alerts that have made me a better driver; I am able to be more observant in traffic and follow a little better.

All the services announced the current speed limit, but from there the similarities stopped. Screenshot: Garage time.

Only to notify controls and obstacles

Through the test, it becomes quite clear that Safedrive stands out favorably compared to its competitors - among other things with notifications of controls that none of the other services detected.

- The Safedrive beeped again, and there was no sign of life from any of the others. And I know there's a lot of discussion about this with controls and the potential for abuse - but there's a lot in this world that can be abused, or that you can choose to use as a useful tool.

- For me, this is an extremely useful tool. I rarely drive over the speed limit and almost never do it on purpose. But on a long trip, like now, I can fall out a bit, and when the horn sounds I wake up a bit, check around and see that I'm keeping to the speed limit. It's not about getting tired or tired, but you can fall out a bit because it's so good to drive today's modern cars.

Bjørn-Aage highlights one incident where Safedrive stood out as particularly useful.

- I have to say in summary that I had one experience that I just want to talk about, which really impressed me. It was in the Opera Tunnel, where there was a car with emergency lights on, just around a bend. There, Safedrive notified me, while none of the others did.

- They have notified everyone about speed cameras and average measurement, so it works very well. But what really stands out are alerts about things you don't necessarily know are there, like when there's a car in the tunnel. At least it made me slow down a bit. So, in summary – Safedrive, you have impressed me once again. It's almost strange that it manages to warn so quickly, because that car in the Operatunnel, it hadn't been there for long, that is!

What about the competitors?

The other services in the test delivered limited results:

  • Saphe was praised for showing the right speed in the Opera Tunnel.
  • Waze and Safer Traffic did not deliver any alerts beyond speed cameras and average measurements.
