On March 1, a number of fine rates were increased in Norway - and some of the rates will have a significant impact on your wallet. Exceeding the speed limit by 36-40 km/h now results in a fine of NOK 11,600. At the same time, the fine rate for illegal use of a mobile phone has been increased by a whopping 50%.
Speeding violations never pay off. Now the fines are getting even higher.
This is the price list for the new rates:
When the speed limit at the location is 60 km/h or lower and the speed limit is exceeded:
Up to and including 5 km/h: NOK 850
Up to and including 10 km/h: NOK 2,300
Up to and including 15 km/h: NOK 4,150 (+ 2 penalty points)
Up to and including 20 km/h: NOK 6,000 (+ 3 penalty points)
Up to and including 25 km/h: NOK 9,300 (+ 3 penalty points)
When the speed limit at the location is 70 km/h or higher and the speeding is
Up to and including 5 km/h: NOK 850
Up to and including 10 km/h: NOK 2,300
Up to and including 15 km/h: NOK3,700
Up to and including 20 km/h: NOK 5,150 (+ 2 penalty points)
Up to and including 25 km/h: NOK 7,000 (+ 3 penalty points)
Up to and including 30 km/h: NOK 9,300 (+ 3 penalty points)
Up to and including 35 km/h: NOK 11,150 (+ 3 penalty points)
When the speed limit on a highway is 90 km/h or higher, and the speed limit is
36 km/h up to and including 40 km/h: NOK 11,600 (+ penalty points)
Inattention behind the wheel is now given much higher priority than before. Being caught using a handheld mobile phone while driving now results in a simplified fine of NOK 7,450. Running a red light, driving too close to the vehicle in front, illegal overtaking and failing to yield will also result in a fine of NOK 7,450. In addition, you will receive three penalty points on your driver's license for these offenses.
Other offenses, such as driving a motor vehicle in violation of traffic signs, will result in a fine of NOK 6,000.
